Front end rebuild

I just finished rebuilding the front end of Zilla (82 Maxim).

New inner tubes (Forks by Frank), and seals with Progressive Springs, and 15w fork oil.

Then I added this, a steering stabilizer from a 2004 GSXR 1000. They are plentiful and cheap on Ebay. I bought the damper for $35 delivered. I bought a 37mm fork tube clamp from parts411.com for $25. Then I welded a tab to the frame and bolted it up.

WOW! Big difference. The Progressive Springs are sweet as many of you already know. The 15w oil is firm but not teeth shattering and really kinda nice with the weight of the fairing.

But the damper/stabilizer was definitely one of the best $60 upgrades I've ever done. I replaced the stock 5w damper oil with 15w. So far it has really improved front end stability and the steering is now smooth as butter. Here's a few pics:

Hey, I like the new springs, as I'm going to be installing a set on "daily ride" this weekend.
Your welding looks ALMOST like mine, holds well, and at "our" cruise speed looks great.
I may have to try a stabilizer on my "project" bike, once I can get a start on it.

Hey man no wise a$$ remarks about my welding. I learned that skill at Hard Knock State.

Besides you can't even see the weld with the fairing on. But man did it sweeten the ride....no not the weld...the stabilizer.

Someone has to keep your feet on the ground!!
I hope to be near your house this summer. I plan on a "road trip" on daily ride late July. I will be riding in Los Alamos for a day or two, then on your direction.
This is just to keep you honest,

As a matter of fact I may be about 100 miles north of Los Alamos in southern Colorado at that time. I think we discussed this a few weeks ago. I believe Jerry mentioned he might ride down from Rifle.

In any case we'll try to coordinate something.
