bought another tank for my bike ...its been repainted in a crappy black...but it's a good solid tank ..so i decided this was the time to go ahead and paint all the bodywork..i was going to paint it black..but there are a lot of black bikes ..i think i'm going to go back with original indigo blue..i know i can go and get it somewhat color matched..but has anyone on this site ever tried to get the real (OEM) color ...the flake in original is the size of dust ..any paints i've looked at have to big of flake..i think it would look out of place on motorcycle...any suggestions...stevo

My bike has been painted with the GM truck indigo blue. I think it's close to the Yamaha O.E. M. color.

      Hi guys,

I was looking around and found this site. http://www.color-rite.com/ for oem paint. They say that they can color match ant paint going back to 1960.

          Stevo,
just did a search on the site, and they have a Yamaha indigo blue, 04E, # 5250. That is the good news....
          $32.95 for a spray can, $107.95 for a pint.
As I said, the chevy/gmc indigo blue truck color is as almost perfect match, and a LOT cheaper!!

On the home page, in the lower left corner, is a box that says "advanced search". put the numbers in there and you should have what you need.

For anything older than 1984 you can call and get the colors you want.

                      bandet01,
I'm going to use pearl on mine as well. I will be using SEM paints, as they are the original makers of pearl paints. The price isn't bad, as I think it will be less than $350 for everything on my bike.

                        Prussian Blue

My XS650H is in Indigo Blue. As a former paintmaker and tinter I can tell you that this paint isn't really indigo but actually Prussian blue. This is a somewhat dirty blue that I personally don't find attractive but being pigmented with blue iron oxide it has the distinct advantage of fade resistance. Not only is iron oxide a rust preventative (think red oxide primer) it will never fade from sunlight as many other colors (especially clean reds, oranges and yellows) will.

Probably more than anyone wants to know about this color but if you want durability and fade resistance it's the way to go. There are other iron oxide colors as well, they all have the characteristic of being sort of "dirty" but they absolutely don't fade. There are several reds, browns, oranges, yellows and blues. Volvo used to paint some of it's cars in a yellow oxide color (baby poop yellow).
                        Shiny side up,
                        650 Mike

I guess it's to each his own ..i spent some time looking at different colors ..end the end i finally decided to go back to close to original indigo blue..i like dark colors .and i guess it is kinda "dirty"looking..but it sure is easy to keep looking clean..i really like black but it's just so dam hard to keep clean and shiney..i'm just going to basecoat/clearcoat with automotive paint..not even going to use Imron ..if it gets scratched i can wet sand and buff ..or if need be sand and re-clear...thanks for input ...gotta go ride ...seeya stevo

not bad ...still have half the paint left...I like the color but it is more blue than original...now i'm going to put some kind of yamakuzi decals on it and clear them in...it looks to plain without something breaking up the color...rode last night till 11:00 weather is getting right..i'm sure i'll ride this thing to Suches this year..maybe see some of you there..good riding stevo
