Rear end sway??

Have had to slow down/stop a few times suddenly.
Had thought I felt the rear wheel move to the side when down shift "heavy" so did it by my shop on purpose and it does.

Brought back to shop and looked at rear wheel.
Put on stand and tried to move wheel sideways by hand to see if any play, none.

Realize can not put kind of force a heavy down shift makes by hand. Has anyone had similar experience???

Try braking while turning to see if it compounds the problem. Swing arm adjustment? Bearings?

Have braked hard. (only in straight line) no problem.
Have braked "normal" while turning and have not noticed anything unusual.

Guess need to remove rear wheel and swing arm to see what’s up.

Check the manual, and try an adjustment on the swing arm. It should only take about 45 minutes for everything, and may solve the problem.
Also check the rear shocks. If the spring preload is off, or one is worn and does not rebound at the same rate, you may have problems with the rear end feeling "loose".

air preasure?

did you first check the air preasure? mine was only down aprox. 4 lbs. and gave similar symptoms.

mro, this may be totally wrong but I notice that sometimes when I downshift with the throttle completely closed it sometimes results in the rear tire locking up a little bit, I can hear the screech. Of course when the rear tire locks up the rear of the bike will skid sideways a little. This has been my observation anyway.

That was what I was going to suggest, except that he's just not hearing any screeching of the rear tire, but it may still be breaking loose/loosing traction under hard decel and down shift!?

When I had an older worn tire on the rear, mine would do that sometimes, especially downhill on a very tight corner

Just got back.

Before ride: found rear tire at 28 psi, bumped it to 38
front tire at 32, put to 36
rear shocks at the lowest setting,
moved up two notches to center posistion.
double checked bearing (did not remove tire)
swing arm not perfect aligned but "ok"

Above has "mitigated" most of the problem. Only happens on a swift slow down, and only a single wobble. Not breaking the rear tire loose. (have done that)

Plan to get some new tires next week or two. Will inspect final drive and swing arm them.

currently have CS high max tires, not only are they crappy, there old and crappy. (had to wear em out before could change em)
