CORRECTION********* The plug has 3 female and one male plug, connected to 4 wires, white yellow brown and green are the wire colors, sorry, I looked at it for a moment when I was hooking up the fairing, and I just went out in the blizzard to double check Boy was I wrong!!! Maybe now you can figure it out!!! there is a hole drilled in the left side bottom of fairing, by the plug that you use for the fairing lights and such........can't get under there to see where it comes from right yet........got too cold brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Just in case nobody knows what I am referring to , I just bought a used Yamaha Vetter fairing, with a built in Vetter radio housing, with radio and speakers, at the bottom of the left side fairing, a hole was drilled, and a wire group, with a plug at the end, with the above description, coming out of it.......would like to hook it up with this plug, but there is not a similiar outlet to plug from the bike, to this plug......It has been awful out, so I have not been able to get out there and take a picture, but I previously described this plug incorrectly, the above posting is the accurate description........SORRY GUYS!!!!!!

What color is the male plug? If it's green, it may be the ground. If it is a flat plug, something like this: OOOo : is sounds like someone used a trailer plug on it. The trailer plug used white as a ground, Brown for tail lights, yellow was left turn and brake, Green was for Right.
If you have a volt/ohm meter, you should be able to find the ground easily. put one lead on the radio case or switch hold down nut, and the other on the white wire. The resistance should be 0 to 2 ohms. If it's about 6 to 12 ohms, you may have the power for the radio light.
You do want to check this with the radio turned off. If you turn it on after, and check again, you should have about 200 to 600 ohm resistance on the power lead.

You said you had a fairing on it before. Was it not hooked up to the "factory" plug? This should be a square shaped plug with a 9 pin connection. With the 9 pins, you should have plenty of connections for lights and the radio. The OEM connector was held on with a rivited plate. Sounds like the PO added some hinky plug set up.

You know Ray, I assumed it might be a plug for a trailer also!! The one male plug is silver, or plain metal, but you are right, it reminded me of a trailer plug.......oh well, I guess I won't need it then, will try to hook the radio up some other way. the antenna is mounted outside, but looks like it is not original, as was posted before, The stock ford radio/cassette, was put in with a crappy band of silicone or some hardened tube stuff, would like to replace it, but it looks bigger than the new players, will have extra space to fill, thought I would wrap it with the same material as the Vetter's outside liner.......

Webcraft, Yes the oem hookup for the fairing is already hooked up, I didn't know there was extra space for another acc there....would I have to hook a fuse in between the radio and oem plug, or is it already to wire in?

              ripchord,
If I remember correctly, the ACC wire is red/white. I would still have a fuse between the radio and power connection, just to be safe. If you have the "lighter" option on the fairing, you can hook the radio into that power. Buy one of the "double" spade connectors, crimp it on to the radio "hot" side, and plug it into the bottom of the lighter, and then plug the power cord back onto the other side of the double plug. Quick and easy.

Hey dude. I am gonna ride home now and take the LONG way, past the lake, it 87 outside Glad you figured out your extra plug was not needed. Do you still want the schematic from my "official" Yamaha manual? (I do still miss my Sandia/Manzano mountains, and yes, those unpredictable NM winters , but I am getting used to these Texas "winters". ).

I got the chance to ride through Washington Pass a week ago, before all this happened, I think I need new fork seals up front, and of course tkats brace, and I will be ready for spring/summer.....If the schematic is not idiot-friendly, than no, but if it will be helpful, and I can understand it, then yes Thank you very much guys, as usual!!! Diver Ray, let me know when you come over to NM, so we can hook up, and you can check out this bike, and vice versa.....ciao
