I have a seat that has the same mounting harware, but will not fit my 79 special. Seems there needs to be a bigger indent in the seat to lower onto the frame properly. My question is are the seat pans that different for the xs's?

Look at the back of the seat pan. If there are 2 studs (or holes for them) and 2 holes for screws (4 mounting places), then that seat is for a standard. The standards have a plastic extension bolted on them to cover where the TCI box mounts. Also, the back of the seat is at about a 30 degree angle where the extension bolts on. If that seat is in pretty good condition, would you like to sell it? I live about 50-60 miles from you, and could come to get it, if the price is reasonable.put something smooooth betwen your legs, XS eleven

Thanks Rover. I wouldn't want much for it. As you can see the pan has some rust although not terrible. There seems to be a bit of paint on the seat. I haven't tried to clean it at all, but I assume with a little goof of it would come clean."If it weren't for a budget I'd be bored."

I guess I will pass on the seat. I will keep using the double bucket, a friend is going to take off the cover, shave some foam, put in a gel pad, and put the cover back on. There is a post today from btchalice looking for a pan, maybe he will take your seat. Thankx, maybe we can ride sometime. I have read through the threads, I must have it if it's posted anywhere, but has anyone any comments to make about the "Gel Pads" like the ones JC Whitney has?
I ride a lot, well 4000 miles on "Sancha" in 4 months, that's a lot for me considering I have to drive a service truck to and from work as part of my job, so it's all nights and weekends. After a 600 mile weekend, I am ready to stop riding! I tried a "Saddleman" brand seat, it was flat and painful in a matter of minutes, went back top an original seat and had it re-covered and some new foam added, all that did was make it look better.
Any input would be great!
Thanks!"DuctTape"

I've got the JC gel pad. It seems comfortable but it sits me up too high. It adds an inch or so to the seat height.
I think it would be nice if the original seat foam was cut-out and the gelpad was an insert under the seat cover.Pat Kelly

On the gel pad insert, I bought a seat cover for the largest bicyclye seat I could find. I cost me $15.99. I stripped it down to the gel then traced around it on the foam. Then cut out the foam about 1" deep then put the pad in place. Covered it with a cover from JC Whitless. Much cheaper than a custom seat being made with gel in it. Pretty confortable in my opinion.
Only problem is if you leave it in the blazing Texas sun for about 6 hours, the gel get's awfully HOT and stays that way for a long time. The rest of the seat is very COOL in comparison. There's always a way, figure it out.

Garusguy,
The seat is probably hitting the black box. You could look at relocating the black box but if you decide you want to sell the seat I would like to buy it (it looks comfortable). I’m not into cosmetics so I’ll let my butt wear off the paint. I’ve already tried relocating my black box in an attempt to get the back of my seat lower. For me the stock seat tills too far forward. A long with the little I lowered the back end, I’ve raised the front end about 2 inches and have done over 400 miles in a less than 8 hours (SOWMBO was waiting) but the seat is a bit high.
If you want to sell it I’ll come over and get it (figure some way to strap it on). Maybe Rover and you could ride back with me a ways. Are you guys going to Drag & Brag?
Thanks,

Sorry I don't have another seat for ya. Goin' for a ride is always excuse enough for me to ride. If you'd like to come up or meet somewhere I'm sure there could be a day good enough for riding. I thought I was going to Brag-n-Drag, but a two week tour came up at work for that time. So it sounds like I'll be working instead. Pm me if you feel the need for a cruise."If it weren't for a budget I'd be bored."
