  • Fuel tank sending unit

I started tearing into my "Rip Van Winkle" Bike (it has been down for a 7 year nap) yesterday. '81 XS1100H

First off with the Tank. Emptied about 2 quarts of rusty flakes out of the tank. Shined a light around, and it doesn't look like the tank is actually that bad - not rusting through. I'll take it to the radiator shop this week or next, and have it dipped and sealed.

I guess I never noticed the fuel guage on the tach, but I was plesently surprised to see a fuel sending unit. I've never had a bike with an actual fuel guage before. Only problem is that it is extremely corroded and doesn't respond to a meter at all. I've been searching around the net, and I can't find a new one. Nothing on Yamaha's or Partsnmore's sites. Is this not available anymore?

I found one for a Special on ebay, but it looks nothing like mine. Mine has a rod with a float on it and this one doesn't.

    Return to Sender

    Regrettably,
That part #2H7-85752-00-00 Fuel Sender Unit is "DISCONTINUED", and the one for the SPECIAL will not work, it's only an Idiot Light sending unit! You'll have to watch Ebay, or perhaps Andreas has a spare??
