  • Headlight Relay Replacement

    Well,
I finally figured out why my headlight had been working only every once in a while. It was the Relay! Anyways I need a new one and don't know where to find one. Is there an aftermarket one from autozone or something like that that would work. I don't really want to pay Yamaha prices, but I have to have a working headlight so I will wait to see what you guys say.
    Thanks for the help

    Josh,

Anything other than original won't be plug-and-play but it can be done. You can use any 12v DPDT relay, one pole to latch the relay coil and the other pole to run the load. I'd suggest one with at least 10A contact rating.

      Howdy Neighbor!

The original relay is triggered by sensing a voltage direclty from the alternator, A/C voltage. If you use a regular relay, then the light will come on anytime the ignition switch is turned on. You may find a used one at Bates cycle salvage in Garland, I think it is. Could be Richardson. The XS750-850 use the same relay, and some other models from that era may work also. On the 750-850 it is located under the left side cover, I believe.

Thanks for the help guys. Just by chance I decided to have a buddy look at the relay to see if he could repair it. When I took it apart, I found a wire that was not attached. He said everything else looks good. I am going to re- soder the wire and hope everything works. Maybee!!!
