  • wireing woes, the headlite goes

1980 xs11sg when i start it up the headlite is nice and bright, but after about a minite the lite goes very dimm. and stays dimm no matter how high the rpms.anyone else ever have this problem? the battery is staying well charged, and the tac holds steady, and i havent seen any smoke...yet

I would suspect a bad ground somewhere...check in the headlight bucket (all the connecters for corrosion) and the battery cable...negative to the frame in particular.

It also could be a burned out low beam bulb and the reserve headlight unit is kicking in (and not well)....is the "headlight" indicator lit?

Check for a bad ground for the headlight. As the need for power increases, the bad connection will heat up and that is what creates a bad ground, OR, there maybe a problem with the headlight relay. Check the voltage at the headlight, and check it whre it leads into the headlight relay, Or, the reserve lighting system is deing activated. Does the white headlight warning lamp on the pilot box come on brightly also?
