I am having troubles whith my shifting; it seems like when I put it in first or second gear, it will pop out of gear when I rev it up. the clutch is brand new and adjusted properly, but it still does the same thing. does anyone have any ideas?

Great Jumping Jehosephat!
Hey Jehosephat,
25K miles may have been rough/hard miles by the P.O.!? Just sorry to hear that you had the TRANNY apart, and could have done this repair prior to putting it all back together? You didn't mention about the other gears, but if it will shift into the higher gears and HOLD, then it's most likely not anything you did putting it together. The Shift Drum rotates into preset positions when rotated and so the shift forks are engaged as much as they should. The shift forks DON'T hold the gears in place, they aren't strong enough or durable enough for that, and some folks have put considerable wear/damage in them by HOLDING down the shift lever keeping pressure on the shift fork and gear. Aluminum fork against hardened spinning steel gear, you can figure out what will wear out first!!
Your new clutch just accentuated the problem, cause it's not slipping, putting all of the power/torque into the tranny, and the gears can't hold it together, especially under throttle. At least it's still early in the season, so you've got time to break it down and get it fixed and back up again!!

Gearing Up!
Jehosephat,
Please read the tech tips, the 1st and 2nd gear Dremmel Fix and other tips in the TRANNY section, and you'll see what's needed!
Your shift forks, although slightly worn, most likely won't need to be replaced, but the gears need work, either replacing or Dremmeling!!
