  • New seals and boots question...

Hi I just installed new seals and boots I
used honda pro suspension fluid 10w

The forks seem to be stiff, Is that normal?
I'm sure that I put them together properly...

I tried all 3 preload adjustments...
Lowest is kinda too low though still off

    High is way too much...

    I don't have a fairing...

Maybe the seals loosen a little?
I've had over 25 bikes in my life. Nothing compares to my 1978 XS1100E......

    "Pour yerself a stiff one"

Just did the forks on my "E" two days ago. There's only one way to put them back together, so you couldn't have done anything wrong. These are heavy bikes, so you can expect the springs to be stiff. And if you're comparing your springs with new oil, to how they were with the old oil, yes, you may be able to notice a difference.
The seals just stop the oil from leaking out.
Maybe the seals loosen a little?
If they loosen a bit... you'll be back tearing the thing apart, again. Forks function by the viscosity of the oil and it's resistance to flow through little holes, etc. Old, contaminated oil that has broken down over the years flows freer than new oil, hence the loss of shock dampening, as compared to new oil and a stiffer feel to the forks.
