  • Where can I buy these?

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to chrome these covers and I'm going to need to replace these seals. Does anyone know where I can purchase these? Thanks

Also, I forgot, if anyone knows any useful tips for removing the oil sight glass, that would be much appreciated.

bike bandit carries the kick starter oil seal

      7: OIL SEAL,SD-TYPE
      (USA) 358386-001 $6.82

It doesn't look like the other two seals were broken out on the microfiche. ???

          How to find parts.

          Hey Theron,

Nice try!!! You have to go to the actual section for the needed parts, not just the CrankCase Covers!!

Go to the Shift Shaft Pedal, The KickStarter, The Clutch, and that's how I found the parts! Keep at it!

I just finished chroming my side covers and had to remove the "eye ball" too. I just used about a 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch board and used a belt sander to "custom" fit the end to match up with the "eye ball". It pressed out very easily and back in with the same board. Also use a little lubricant on the "eye ball" when you reinstall it.

Now I see. I just went to crank case covers and didn't see them.

So how much stuff are you getting chromed? I went with the valve cover, outside carb lids and bowls, choke assembly, all four side covers and the starter covers. I would also suggest you spend about $20 for a set of SS allen headed screws to use when you put it back together. They are listed on ebay. If you need the name of the guy I have a link to get to him. They NEVER rust. Oh, don't forget to use a little never sieze on the SS screws to keep them from seizing in the aluminum.

I'm doing all for side covers, valve cover, footpeg brackets, wheels, carb diaphragm covers, and float bowls. I would like to do the starter cover, and the cover next to it (the one with the bearing), but I couldn't get the starter cover off for the life of me. I was also afraid of a screwing up the bearings on the cover next to it so I think I'll just leave them alone. I have a spare final drive that I would like to have chromed, but I have no way of pressing out the bearings.

I've already got the SS bolt kits, so I'm good to go.

I'm sort of new to all of this, so not only am I trying to make this into a cool bike, but it's also a learning experience.

                      miserably trying

                      Hey T.C.

Yeah, I think I should leave the part finding to you, as you are most excellent at it. Didn't look too hard though, had drywall sanding and painting to do tonight, so I was in a little bit of a hurry...but no excuse for not finding the right info.

                      AKMac and dewibp:
For the parts you are having chromed, would you mind telling me ballpark wise of the cost? I looked up some shops in my area, but haven't priced anything yet. I guess I'd also want to add both fenders since both are scratched up and pitted from rust.

                      Thanks

I'm also wondering about costs of re chroming. Only place around here I've found costs a fortune he calls it 'show quality chrome'.

I was quoted by a place in Grand Junction Colorado, $250 for each wheel, and $75 for each side cover. I'll let you guys know what it actually ends up costing. Supposedly these guys are very good, and so far they've been great over the phone.

I've got about $500 in all my chrome work. I had a place in Omaha, Neb. do it by the name of Industrial Plating. I didn't go with the show quality chrome finish as your paying a premium for the extra buffing that, after looking at the chromed parts, would not be worth it to me.

Hey dewibp, on your clutch housing, did you remove the piece on that back side that has three circular grooves, I think it's called the "push screw housing"? If so, how did you do it without messing it up?

I'm almost ready for chrome. I removed the oil window, I got the front and rear wheel entirely apart, and took the triple tree and speedo bracket off today. I decided they would look good in chrome
