  • Seafoam??

What is it? What does it do? Where should (or shouldn't) I use it? Where do you get it?
    Hi...my name is Mike, and I'm a lane-splitter.

Seafoam is fuel system cleaner/conditioner that actually works. I found it at Napa. I run it through all my vehicles at least once a year.

sea foam is a great product, will eat through almost any gunk in the fuel system. I run it every spring, and when im getting close to parking it for the winter ill run it through. lets the carbs start better each spring.

        Seafoam

What Bauer said. I use it more often. Saved me a carb overhaul. Local small engine shop buys it by the case. They swear by the stuff. Works great in mowers, chain saws. I put a couple oz. in every tank of gas, more than that if it's running sluggish.

I can second what these guys have said also. I probably go overboard, but I'll throw in a can every 3-6 tankfulls just for good measure.

IIRC, can't you put it in crankcase also, like Marvel Mystery Oil? Don't have a can around at the moment, but was thinking that you could do that. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

You might find some at Blacks Beach. I know I made some foam there before.

Don't know what they call it now. I used to hang there A LOT in the late seventies, early eighties (when our bikes were new) when I was in the Navy in San Diego. Last time I was there was 92, tookSWMBO there, and I could hardly find the place for all of the development around there. Used to be a foot path down to the beach, now there are stairs all the way down.

You can find Seafoam at any Napa or most Pep Boys in San Diego. Black's Beach is in the San Diego City limits just north of La Jolla ( Scripps -UCSD). Torrey Pines is a state beach. It is the beach that I spent a lot of time at when I was a kid. San Diego is nothing what is used to be. Just way too many people now.

I felt San D was too crowded when I lived there in 80-81. That's why I moved back to Phoenix (now back in Calif again)

Thanks for the input, fellers! I'll be picking some of that stuff up. I am also interested to find out about crankcase usage as well. I agree that SD has changed quite a bit since I was a kid. My most vivid (and HORRIBLE) memory of Blacks Beach was when a couple of buddies and I made the trek down the cliffside trail for a dawn patrol surfing session. As we were approaching our favorite spot to paddle out, we noticed a jogger approaching us on the beach...about 5'6", 300+ lbs, and all he had on was a red hooded sweatshirt (enter Adam Sandler song here)>

Beside SeaFoam, there is also Berryman's B12 Chemtool. It is just about the same, I think. I use it all the time, and I do put it in the oil, idle for about 5 minutes, then drain and change the filter. I did this on daily ride when I first got it, just to make sure the crankcase was clean.
Berryman's is in a White, Red, and Blue can. can be had in spray or pints, as well as gallon cans.

Nothing is going to replace disassembly of the Carbs and doing it right. I've seen Carbs so bad the slides and floats are frozen. The needle jets and pilot jets need to come out. The need to look for bent or broken tips on mixture screws remain. Orings on the needle seat need replaced and float levels checked.

You can, but the bottle says you shoud only warm up the engine with it, not drive anywhere. Given the gunk that came out with the oil the one time I tried it, I would probably agree.
