I am trying to figure out what the purpose of the "head lamp" indicator on the center instrument light cluster is for. Does it come on if the headlight fails?

Is it supposed to light up?

Don't you love IDIOT LIGHTS!
Hey Mike,
Yes, the light comes on when your low beam burns out, it's to let you know that it's burned out, the high beam will be run at a lower power with the Reserve Lighting unit! So....if it's not on and your headlight is working, then everything is OK!

Thanks for getting back so quickly on this T.C.! I definately don't want to be one of the idiots that doesn't understand the lights!Since my bike has been out of commision, I've discovered that the PO put some pretty cool stuff on it...Jardine exhaust, K&N filter, stiffer fork springs. Andreas sent me an e-mail letting me know that my final drive and driveshaft will probably be here by the end of next week, so I should be up and riding again by next weekend!! I can't hardly wait...

Mine runs the same, on just a little. It also works if the high beam goes out. I lost a high beam on the Reno Ralley, and the light came on when I tried to put the high beam on.
A quick replacement bulb, and I was back on the road. I do like the reserve lighting system.Ray Matteis
