Hi all! And a happy B-Day to Prom... and T.C.....I,m looking at a set of Jardine 4 into 2 on ebay, item# 4613257599 and the inner pipe is lower than outer like my stock system so as to have clearance for factory oil cooler hard lines. He has sent me a couple additional pics with pipes level on floor showing that difference. Where 2 goes to 1 at Y is an identical configuration of my stock system on my 81H tourer. My question is whether or not the outer pipe's radius will clear the factory front crash bars, as the stock system's outer pipe clears by only 3/16"? I'm not good enough to transfer those additional pics here, but was hoping maybe someone here could take a look at the system listed or would already know that this set-up would work on my bike or not without any modifications. Also, without the crossover, is this set-up with the side exhaust exit obnoxiously loud. If so, most likely wouldn't want anyways. Just maybe lookin for a change, and my stock system is still in perfect cond., absolutely no dings or rust........the latter is fairly hard to come by in Colo.! So anyone who knows, just jump in here and let me know whether the change would fit, if I wouldn't like looks or sound, or whatever.

I have the Jardine 'spagetti' pipes. The bike also has a Lockhart oil cooler and 2 point cse guards. Everything's worked fine for the last 3 years.Pat Kelly

Jardine's
Yea Pat, The 1/3 2/4 configuration is totally different set-up, and wouldn't work with the factory oil cooler set-up anyways, although I know those are fairly rare to find now. The ones I'm lookin' at are an exact duplicate to stock from head down to Y. From there back they are different and have turned out exit. Yours have a totally different sound not being on a 'dead fire' cyl. at any time, and most likely allow for a little more bottom end torque from a more constant back pressure.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Bottom end torque
You could ask Winterhawk about the difference in bottom end torque with the spaghetti pipes. He won a set of NOS mufflers for his 'spag' pipes on ebay a few months ago, beat me out on the auction, but they didn't have a crossover pipe like his old ones did. He sold me his old ones, as I needed a right side muffler for my bike after the accident. He needed a left side muffler, as battery acid had etched the chrome on his old set. My left muffler was ok, so I made out pretty good. I had a hell of a time trying to locate a muffler for those pipes, or get the right side muffler repaired. He told me that he felt a loss of bottom end torque with the new mufflers, with out the crossover pipe.

John's right. He is the new owner of my low end power now..LOL
I went 1 size pilot jet larger with the crossover pipes.
Without the crossovers I'm at stock jetting and it seems to run pretty good now. Just not as much low end but hits harder at around 5.5~6k's.

Well, you all talking bout the different exhaust set-ups have pretty much answered any question bout changin' to the side exit Jardine's that are on ebay..........may give the different sound and looks, but givin' up some performance at different levels. The ones on my 81H tourer are in perfect cond. with no rust, dings or blueing at tops of headers, and do give a decent sound crusin' at 70-75mph, so thinkin the change may be dissapointing. Let someone out there in eastern part of country with rust problems have them, as they are in decent cond.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.
