  • What kind of exhaust is this?

I keep meaning to ask you guys if you can tell me what kind of exhaust I have. It's definately aftermarket since it extends past the rear axle, and my Special didn't come that way from the factory. It's a 4 into 2 system, but the header for cylinders 1 and 4 go to the right side of the bike, and 2 and 3 are on the left side. 1 and 4 are bolted on first because 2 and 3 extend forward past them before making the bend that directs them towards the left side. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mike

If it looks like that, it is a Jardine, and as rare as hen's teeth. Best looking set made for these if ya ask me.
They make a fairly unique item like the 11 into an even more unique one. Lucky you if it is.

Yep...thats the one! Holy sh**, your bike looks AWESOME!!! My exhaust is kind of worn, especially in the front (some light rust and pitting), and where the crossover is. Any tips or ideas on how to bring it back (besides removing and replating)? Thanks for the info!

Mike, Those pipes in the pic are Jardines, P/N 8102. They do look pretty cool. Actually that pic is of my bike, Twilite Special, after I rebuilt it after my accident last fall. Not that I'm trying to toot my own horn, (yes I am) but thanks. JWSanders gave me the photo credit under the pic.

My apologies for the mix-up. I'm hoping that I can get mine to look that clean someday. Right now, my focus is just getting it put back together.

P.S. I noticed that your front fender is black. Did you do that yourself? I like the look of that and would like to black out a lot of stuff on mine.

I probably could've been a little clearer about who's bike that was. Sorry about that.

I only wish mine looked that good. And had those pipes.

That's pretty much what I said when he first posted the pics of it too: "Holy S**t, that looks awesome!"

I used a wire wheel on a drill and a lot of nevr-dull wadding polish to get the rust off of my factory pipes. They were pretty much completely covered in rust when I got the bike, and I was able to get them shiny (although scuffed) again. If it's just light rust, I'd skip the wheel and use scotch-brite to take off any flakey rust then use the nevr-dull. It takes off rust amazingly well on chrome after a few minutes rubbing. Takes a little elbow grease though. Little spots dissapear fast. You can get it in just about any auto parts store.

Mabe by the end of summer, mine'll be close to looking that good.

No problem, man. I am flattered that someone else would put up a pic of my bike, and then have it get that kind of reaction.
