Hey Geezer, is the seat pan in good shape or be sandblasted and cleaned up? Does it have the brackets and bolt/nuts for fastening it? Also will it fit a 79 special? If so PM with what you want for it. thanks dew

As I recall it's rust free but I want to keep the mounting hardware for a custom seat I want to build. If I still have the seat when I start the project, I will probably cut the pan up and weld parts of it into the new seat.

It came off a bike that had been sitting inside a somewhat damp garage for over 15 years. I had to replace the fork tubes because they were pitted in the seal area. Over all it was a great low milage bike and I would have kept it but Specials kill my back.

So if you keep the hardware, does that mean you would give up the pan and do you know if it will fit a 79 special?

I may have one. I bought a seat for my 79sf and it never quite fit. I know it is for a special though. I can send a pic if you want. I have the right seat for my bike and have no need for that one.

It does not need to be recovered.

Maybe not what you guys are hoping for, but at the moment, these are the only pics I could scrounge up:

Sorry about the large filesize. Pics 1 and 2 are of the bike (and seat) before I started working on it. Pic 4 is the state the bike is presently in.

Pic 3 shows the bottom of the seat pan and shows that it's mislabeled as well.

                        Pic 1
                        Pic 2
                        Pic 3
                        Pic 4

Do a search. There are LOTS of previous threads on places that do an excellent job recovering seats.
