  • The dog ate my shifter!

    Hello all,

Yes it is true! The dog decided to chew the rubber off the shifter on my XJ11! (Hmm..much like my homework in school!)

I see one on ebay for an xj550 that looks very similar (the whole shifter not just the rubber) Does anyone know if it would work??

OR - does anybody have a shifter off an XJ laying around in their parts heap??

    Thanks

Never have a rubber when you need one!

    Hey Jim,

    Gear Shift Rubber
    Gear Shift Rubber - Fits: 1970-84 650's OEM Ref.# 132-18113-01

    Part #02-2470 $1.00 USD EA.

    Part #19-0072 $7.00 USD EA.

Below you can see the shifter's are different numbers, perhaps 650 Mike or Pat Kelly can tell us how different the length, angle of the 650 part is compared to the XS11, or even if the shaft mount is a different size?

The Rubber IS the same part, kinda pricey though!

Heh heh...sounds like my chocolate lab when he was teething. He ate my air conditioner. The wiring and the copper lines. Then he ate about a half a cord of firewood! LOL!

        Fortunately he's over that now.

        The part is cheap.

Left two American Bulldogs in the house and when I got home it looked like it snowed. They ate the cushions off about a thousand dollars worth of new (less than a week) old sofas... Did not go over well with the wife...

What is it with Labs? Our chocolate ate every single one of my shoes on a Saturday Afternoon. Our Yellow ate the couch!!! I think the total lab chews amounted to about $2400. The funny thing was we bough a muzzle for the Yellow when she was a pup and she ate three of them!

                  dogs that eat "things"!!!

i present one of my older dogs, avlanche, a pure blood alaskian malamute, male, had him for about 7 years.....please folks do not let the pretty smile and good looks fool ya.....just look at the shifty eyebrows and you can understand what this dog ate.....

entire bags of large marshmellows (they didn't stand a chance!)

too many entire loaves of bread to be counted (was sorta cheaper than his regular food!)

full cans of beer (damn alcoholic!)

brand new wireless phone for the house (one week old!)

a 1 quart ziplock bag full of "special" seeds weighing about 1/2 pound total (dog really wasn't the same after that!!)

trust me a gear shifter rubber is the least of your worries...pay the few dollars to get the new one and be thankful the beast didn't decide that the seat cushion and tires we his new favorite chew toys!!!!....ride hard & ride safe...ross

I had a Lab too..never ate any part of the house or furniture...but one Thanksgiving my wife turned her back for a minute and he stole the turkey and ate about half of it. Just couldn't resist I guess...

We had a black lab that would go into the cupboard and get cans of green beans and tuna fish (I can understand her being able to identify the tuna cans, but she always got ONLY green beans) and would bite holes into the cans and slowly crush the contents out of the cans till they were flat. Could not break her of that, so she lives on a ranch now chasing the cows.

A couple of years ago my wife made real gingerbread cookie ornaments for our Christmas tree. My great dane decided to try them. What surprised us was that on 10' tree, he was able to get to the damn cookies at the TOP! without disturbing the rest of the ornaments. couldnt figure out how, so we set up the camcorder to catch him in the act. The damn dog TIPTOED to the tree, and reached up!!! i couldnt believe it!! frigging dog.
