    I'm usually not this FORWARD!

    Hey there Garp,

Sorry to hear about your recent surgery, and upcoming one! Forward controls are very rare for the XS11. I've seen only a few, and I think they were modded from controls designed for other bikes. They are also very expensive! So...for a quick temporary fix, they aren't worth the $$. But, if you have some fabricating skills, you may be able to make some out of some go kart controls!?!? I've been looking at some in the local Northern Tool store, they have foot pedal actuators and linkages for go karts, and seems like I could rig up something with a little grinding and welding!?

I also had some ideas about the brackets that would fit around the gear shift shaft and lever, which could allow me to use both the forward controls when cruising, but ALSO pull my feet back to the regular pegs, and still use the OEM controls.

Thought about a lever mounted near the front of the OEM brake pedal, and the remote forward lever would just press down on the OEM brake lever, instead of having to link it ALL THE WAY back to the OEM lever.

I haven't made any decent drawings of these designs, cause after I built my trailer, I wasn't thinking I would actually need any forward controls....for the really long rides to GET TO THE RALLY locations, I was just going to haul the bike there on the trailer, then I only use the OEM controls for the actual Rally runs anyways!? But, now with the gas prices running so high, I can get 10+MPG by actually riding my XS11 to the rally instead of trailering it behind my guzzling SUV!!

Hope this gives you some ideas!? Good luck, hope you don't miss too much riding during your recouperation!

might also concider a setup like mine. I have highway pegs and OEM controls. When I need to stretch out I just put the feet up to the highway pegs, but around town and in twisties I use the stock pegs.

I think that this way is alot cheaper.

hey, i understand you wanting to ride, but... if you have knee surgury, and cant bend your knee, or put alot of force on it, or whatever....you might want to think about what you are going to do if that 1100 starts to tip!!! i pulled a muscle in my back last summer trying to stop my xs from tipping. and i didnt have physical problems. i just hate to hear about you going down AND going back in for MORE surgury. just a thought. hope things go good for you.

That is what I do also, except that I have Kuryakyn pegs. I once wanted floorboards, but after hearing about difficulties putting the feet on the ground, I decided not to go that route.

            Garp:

You might want to check some past threads on this topic. Use the Search tab at the top right of the screen. Enter floorboards as the search term, and you will get several returns.

I run floorboards and a heel-toe shifter, lose some ground clearance but gain a lot of long-haul comfort. Easy to switch back to stock pegs. Marklund did make XS sets of forward controls, but are now few and far between. They come up on eBay from time to time. At lease one member modified a set from a Honda Goldwing GL 1000 for use on his XS; made up a short arm to fit the brake shaft and used it for ataching the brake linkage.
