  • Quick tricks for grip removal?

I just bought some sport bike grips for my new superbike handblebars I also bought, I need to remove the throttle grip off the plastic throttle shaft. Is there an easy way to do this. I havent had any time to play around with it yet (70 miles away from the bike in college) but will be swapping the bars out this weekend. But I tried briefly and it seemed like it was stuck on there pretty good.

So whats everybodies tricks, if there is such a thing haha.

    Thanks.

stick an air hose in the little hole in the end of the grip
and put your finger over the othergrip
and blow, you will be surprised on how fast that it will pop off of there

Aquanet hair spray, spray the grip inside and the handlebar. Try to get it on all in on shot before it sets. Keeps 'em on!

I have a selection of dirt and street and have used the old carb cleaner spray trick,,,,shoot the plastic nozzle as far inside the old grip, use a screwdriver to lift a little and spray. The cleaner will loosen the old adhesive quickly, sometimes wiggle and twist then spray again. Pull off as quick as possible. To put new ones on, spray the cleaner and quickly slide on. Within a minute the cleaner evaporates and the grip is stuck solidly,,,,similiar trick to the hairspray but hairspray is good only for putting on....good luck, Mike in sun diego,,,xj1100

I second that... always worked. Only I used WD40... for getting them off and new ones on. Just dont use too much when putting them on. Just as much as it is absolutely neccessary. It fixes the grips nicely once they're set.

                          grinder

i'm stuck with the grinder method of removeal, as i have the metal and rubber style grips. the thing i like about them is they make it seem as i have one inch bars as oposed to 7/8" they actually are.

Used aquanet for the new grips on my 650 Seca...were still on after 10 years and about 65,000 miles. As a very little bit of rock trivia...Aqua net was the hairspray of choice for all the "hair" bands. I can't remember where I parked my car but I know that.
