  • Shock Question...

I posted this in the Lounge, but I think it should be here instead ...

((If sitting on the bike)) my left shock has no bolt through the top hole. I got to looking at it, and I can plainly see where it has been sheered off. Now the question is ... what is that bolt/shaft/threaded rod connected to? What do I need to replace so I will be able to bolt down the top of my left rear shock???

    Any help would be fan-tab-ulous.

The upper shock mounts are the same on the '78 if I recall. The bottoms are different. There is a threaded post that comes through from the frame and you screw on a pretty chromed acorn nut with a pretty chromed washer and lock washer - or rusty regular nut like mine. Look at the right one, should be the same on top. The bottoms are different - the right one bolts to the swingarm with a regular bolt and nut, and the left to the rear drive with another chrome acorn nut and washer.

I would not run like that. Is the cushion still there in the shock?

Check the "Rear Arm - Rear Cushion" then the "Frame" I think.

this happend to me,so i got a drill the same size as the threaded part and very carfully drilled right through the middle of it so the part that goes through the shocky was still there and put a bolt through and the nice shiny chrome nut on the end,
