Classic! Bob Jones can't hold a candle to this! Hehehe

I realize most people think this is your "Ode" to the Packers. But all us Griffin's know the truth.

Hate to soundlike the only cheeseball in the bunch, but i did my own prepwork on the tank, sidecovers, and seat portion and took it to Earl Scheib. Picked out a metallic green and paid them about 70 bucks to do it. Looks great!

chev, nice job.. you have a nice shine on the tank going. TC posted few more pics of my bike in members lounge under, "are you ready for some football" hehe... few of these pics i have dont really show a good gloss.. i put about 5 or 6 or more clears on. actually to many i think..when i put the lock in for the gas tank, the clear had a small crack in it where i torqued it down. Now!!!!! what we want to see is TC's bike with a big Godzilla painted on it. That would be classic...

I saw Griff's bike when it was in pieces. I knew he was onto something. His paint job was great. Maybe my browser crapped out, but I can't see any of Griff's pics here... ??

John, that shine on your tank is so bright it's hard to tell it's even painted. You guys get great shine.

I will be ready to paint my 79sf when it warms up. Will probably go high gloss black and clear coat again from House of Kolor just because I've used it and have an idea how it comes out.

I painted an 84 Honda CRX with paint from http://www.paintforcars.com with decent results. It is very cheap and can be hardened. It is much more durable than rattle cans. Gas doesn't seem to mess with it months later. I'll probably use it again. One thing I noticed is that it comes out much thinner than the House of Kolor paint. Got some runs before I discovered that!

I need a lot more practice and tips before I'll get the kind of paint jobs I'm satisfied with. I'd like my bike paint to look as nice as John's.

Just sucks if you put all that time and money into paint and your bike doesn't run quite how you want.

                    DECIDED ON THE COLORS

Went and got the paint on thursday, 80bucks for 1quart of Cranberry Red Metallic and 1 pint of Silver Metallic for the flames plus hardeners and such. Single stage paint.

All ready got the bike torn down and tank wet sanded out to 800grit. Heres some pics....

Acetoning the paint to remove wax and grime before sanding.

                    Dents and scratches filled.

                    Wet sanding.

Ill have more as I go along.

                        Bauer,

Nice pictures, and great job! A fine, step-by-step progression. Questions:

Which paint did you buy, PPG or Dupont (or other)? The $80 was for everything?

Did you put primer on before the base coat?

                        How many clear coats?

Did you do anything special to the side covers? Did they end up as nice as the tank?

I hope you post pics of the final results.

                        Thanks

first off sorry about the oversize pics....

                          Fxrer:
I did wind up using PPG, couldnt pass up the difference in price.

I used the Omni line, under the PPG heading, with MTK style paint. The $80 covered 1 quart of primer and hardener, 1quart of cranberry base, 1 pint of silver metallic (for flames) and 2 cans of hardener for the paint. I had the reducer all ready from a previous project so that saved me some cash. All in all, $100 or so should have about done it had I had to buy everything.

Im trying to think of the style I went with, but it was the style that did not need a clear coat, it dried to a clear coat style finish.

The side covers I just wet sanded with 400 grit.

Ill be painting my flames this weekend, so expect pics early next week.
