the general opinion seems to be that 80 carbs do not need rubber/plastic carb plugs in the bottom of the pilot jet tube. dont take this wrong guys...i have the ut most respect for you guru's and the not so guru. lol. i have on my bench an 80 carb (this is the second one) that has the cross drilled hole, in the carb body, that connects the main jet/emulsion tube to the pilot jet tube. if the plug wasnt there the gas would not be metered thru the main jet. i have also seen 80 carbs that do not have this cross hole connecting the two tubes in the body. of course these carbs would not need the plugs. i have a pic of this...if i could figure out how to post it i would. my guess ...the early models have the cross hole and late model dont. ???

Red Bandit, Go to Yamaha.com. Work your way to the motorcycle section and then to the parts catalog.(breeze past the part where they want you to sign up, etc) Type in the year and type o' model for each bike(carb) and compare for screws or carb plugs or no carb plugs.
