"Feed her some mercury and see if she gets more docile"

I used to eat leaded paint chips, and notihng happenened toot mememee.

    In my "expert" opinion...
That mercury is some pretty heavy stuff. (I needed to be an expert to state that?)
(back from the garage to investigate...)
Was wondering if the thing was vented into the mercury chamber to compensate for the vacuum. This mercury, inorder to climb and get into the engine needs to rise about two feet, and then traverse about three feet o' vacuum hose. That's a pretty good distance to travel.
Now then... as my garage excursion showed me... on the back of the mercury gauge, there are two posts that you can hook the mecury fill line/vent line to. One says closed, the other says vent. (been so long, I had forgotten about it. Vent is obviously to vent the chamber so the mercury can leave, etc. Funny thing... had mine in the closed position. Been in the closed position ever since I had it. Works just fine. Maybe if the vent was open the mercury would rise a little higher, but who cares. I don't measure vacuum... just ensure all the lines are the same.
You'd really have to try to get the engine to inject this stuff, and I'm all for it!
It's called "Expediated Evolution" As I explained to my sons when we see a dead squirrel on the road, "that is evolution is progress". That dumb squirrel will not live to produce more dumb offspring like himself. The smarter squirrel will live, produce smarter offspring, which will evolve, eventually use computers, and take over.
I'm all for someone trying this experiment at home. Better still... have his children there with him to witness(witless) his grand experiment.

      'And in conclusion...." an afterthought

The little bit o' mercury vapor that you'd inhale, after most of it clings to the walls or puddles in the exhaust pipe, would be no more than you'd get eating a can of tuna.

Mercury vapor is way more toxic than liquid mercury! If it goes through the combustion chamber, there is no telling what nasty compounds you are producing. I'll take my chances with other things.
