  • Carb Diaphram Reassembly

Wow.... I took apart my first of the 4 carbs for my 79 1100sf which has been sitting forever. Thanks guys for the tech tips, what a big help!

I thought I would go ahead and disassemble the diaphram assembly and replace the needle valve.... Seemed like a good idea at the time, after all the DID include one in the rebuild kit. I am really having a hard time getting the spring clip back into place to hold the whole assembly together. Seems like I need an extra hand or two to pull the needle down against the spring, line up the two nubs on the plastic cover that goes over the needle and get the clip in place.... anyone have any great ideas or found an easy way to do this?

Next carb is going to get a good cleaning, but the dang needle is gonna ride again! Should have just followed the tech tips.....

    Thanks

.. i have modified a pair of old needle nose pliers to work like a pair of snap ring pliers. i just sharpened the ends to points small enough to fit in the holes of the snap ring. just make sure you grind the points off set to one side to help clear the top of the plastic holder. you will have to grind a releif in the side of the pliers to help clear also

Home Depot has a set of five small pliers and cutters that has a pointy needle nose in it. It's small enough that it will squeeze the snap ring. The set was only about $10.00.

Thanks for the tip regarding the pliers at home depot.... and as luck would have it, I just got a home depot gift card for Christmas......

I had a small set of needle nose pliers that I had already modified with my handy dandy bench sander to disassemble the diaphram assembly. They are so small though that they may be hampering my ability to get my fat fingers out of the way enough to put the little devil back together.

I will make a home depot run later today and see what I can find.

        Thanks!
