  • vacuum advance hose size?

hello everybody and happy new year!!

I have read a couple of other posts that mentioned the vacuum hose to 3/16. I took a scrap piece of the hose (which had broken) to the auto parts store and tried to match it ip that way. The inside diameter seemed reasonably close; however, the hose would not fit through the grommet in the backside of the timing case. If you guys could let me know if 3/16 is the right size for the vacuum advance hose and where I could get said hose I would appreciate it. By the way its an '78 xs1100e. One more thing, when hooking up an auxillary tank to do carb synch do I have to put a "T" in the fuel line from the bladder so that I can run fuel line to both sides of the carbs (simulate two petcocks). Or is one line sufficient.

    Thanks,

    Camron

As far as the fuel line goes, you can run it from one source line, but it does need to have a T. The carbs get thier fuel in pairs.

      Camron,

Ditto what 81sxproject said. Two fuel feeds. Also, you can ream that grommet to fit the 3/16" hose. Wetting it will also help get it through.

PS the microfiche calls that hose 3.5mm x 375mm long. By my calculations, a 1/8" hose would be a better fit.

I used 7/16 outside dianmeter automotive vacuum hose and I removed the gromet. I sealed up the space where the gromet was with silicone sealent. I also used tiny hose clamps on each end to keep the hose on. It seems to be holding up well and it works.
