  • Fuel leaking from carb.

Just rode my 79 XS1100, and it started cutting out. Moved pitcocks to all different positions and combinations. The engine stopped running and would not start. Heard fuel leaking from inside air breather box, and started flowing threw vent hole on the bottom of air box. Removed air box and noticed leak comming from carb. Only stops leaking when BOTH pitcocks are turned off.
    Anyone ever had this before??

Is this a special or a standard? The first thing I would look at is the fuel line routing. Your carbs have TWO "T" fittings per side. The TOP "T" fitting is a breather, going to the air box, and the BOTTOM "T" fitting is the fuel inlet. make sure everything is properly connected, and try again with the airbox still off.

Has the bike sat for a while? Maybe leaky needle valves?? Got something in the way keeping them from closing fully?? It will back-flow into the airbox when your bowl(S) overfill.
Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

Either that, the advance hose is improperly connected, or you've got the wrong airbox (check to see if the nipples are plugged).

The T thingies on my new old 80 1.1 standard are leaking. AFAIK there are two o-rings on each T nipple thingie. I checked the parts diagrams on yamaha website, and no o-rings are shown. So, whats up with that. Any quick thaughts? Gonna take em apart over the weekend, but I would like to get all the stuff I might need before that.

            Strom,
I would measure the diameter of the "T", and buy "O" rings that are just a bit smaller diameter. If I remember correctly, the "O" ring should be less than or about 1mm. Good luck finding them.
