  • Fuel Pitcocks

I have a 79 XS1100 and turned the pitcocks off. The bike now runs rough and spits and sputters. It doesn't matter if they are set to on, res. or pri. any ideas??

we need some more info on this one. Do you have a special or a standard. The quick easy way is round headlight or rectangular.

Its a special, it has the round headlight. When I first bought the bike it ran fine, except at high RPM it would cut out.
Then I put the pitcocks in Res. and it ran for a while the would not.
If you move the pitcocks to different settings it will run for a while, then starts cutting out again.

There are threads on the special "fuel line routing" problems. You can do a search, and probably find the answer to your problem.
I would say start with a rebuild of the petcocks, and then rebuild the vacum valve located on the #2 carb. I would also put filters, the clear type, on the fuel lines. They will give you a clue if you still have problems, and you see stuff floating in the filters.

Could also be that the filter screens above the float needles are clogged. Requires carb removal and disassembly to check. Do the easy to check stuff first.
