  • News from the Reno Rally

I drove out to Reno and picked up "Zilla" this past weekend. 3500 miles round trip! Drove 700 miles in blowing snow from Cheyene to just west of Elko.

Matt had him put back together after the spill. He had to replace the triple tree, front forks and fairing. Other than that Zilla was just a little scratched and bruised...no bent frame or anything serious.

I took all the parts to the shop today to have them repainted (fairing, sidecovers, bags and lowers). Hopefully in a couple weeks he'll be good as new.

Matt said he was looking forward to next year's rally. Hope everyone that made it this year will be back.

Glad to hear Zilla is back home!!
I hope to have my "winter project" done in time for next year. If not, the "daily ride" will always get me there again!
I hope to see you again next year, and maybe sooner. I will try to take some time this spring to go east. I plan on Los Alamos, and I'll have to see after that.

      Ray

Zilla IS my winter project.... But he should be ready to roll in just a couple weeks.

Los Alamos huh? I might be able to hook up with you there. I have a place to stay about 150 miles north of there (Pagosa Springs, CO). The Four Corners area is a great place to ride. So much diversity in scenery.

Glad to hear Zilla is OK and will be back on the road shortly. Keep me posted if the Los Alamos ride becomes a reality...have not been down in that area for a few years, but the ridge ride up Sandia Peak is nice. There is a possibility that I could hook up for a day's ride, depending on work schedule.

MMMM, That sounds like a good ride.... I wonder, if I get this KZ1000 police bike project off the ground, would I be invited? Though it's not beyond me to ride down there and back w/o a fairing or windshield on the cruzmissl. I figure, if dad could ride a 1967 650 Triumph enduro from LA to Yellowstone and back, I can ride my naked XS11 to New Mexico. The trouble is my lovely new wife requires a little more comfort.

Hmmmm...sound like the makings for a "Four Corners" Rally.

Jerry's only a couple hundred from that area...so if you actually decide to do it Ray let us know. I'm always up for that area.

Hmmm...gee...I dunno. Whaddaya think guys? Should we let him ride with us? Just bear in mind. We'll have to keep our Elevens in 4th so that old CHiPs surplus bike can keep up!

Oh BTW Matt...thanks for all the help. Now that I have Zilla back and am 1700 miles away I can freely talk trash.

We had an XS rally in Chama, NM, a few years back. That is something like 50 miles south of Pagosa Spr. You know, Canyon Lands is not too far from 4 corners. I sure gets hot there in the summertime!

OK, there is a typo there. "It sure gets hot..."

Yeah we knew what ya meant.

I tripped to Monument Valley this past summer with a couple other XSives. Wonderful ride. Awesome scenery.

Chama is nice too. That area is a great place to ride.
