• selling 82 XJ1100

I tried to post this on the classifieds but to no avail...

I've got an 82 XJ1100 with aprox. 33000 miles. Pretty clean, runs good (carbs have been tripple and quadruple cleaned), pod filters, new Dunlops (about 3000 miles on them), National Cycle windshield, leather saddlebags, many other new or rebuilt parts..

Asking $1450

Location: Brooklyn Park, MN

If someone can tell me how to post photos I'll gladly do it. Otherwise, I'll email photos to serious inquiries only as I have a dial-up connection and it takes a lot of time.

Reason for selling: We're having a baby - need cash.

Do you think I'm asking too much? I've seen them between $1000 and $1800.

Thanks for the well wishes - Yeah my life as I know it is gonna change. SWMBO keeps reminding me of that..

my ?

if you didn't have the bike already. what were you going to do ? seems to me people don't say lets get preg. i have a bike to sell?I not trying to be mean or anything but the bike will save more money in gas then selling it to pay for what 2 bags of diapers?the bike is payed for the kids not here yet?I just hate to see peeps have to get rid of theese fine machines thats all.. any way if i had the funds i would help ya but alas i have two kids one going to college soon.... So now i have to own the bike just to save extra money. and even bought a geo metro (100 dollars) wow gets better mileage than my bike!well good luck with the new family member and i hope ya can work something out.

I would have to agree with chevy on this one. SWMBO and I have a 3 year old and he adores my XS. He thinks he's king of the world when he sits on the gas tank in front of me.

Basically, if you can get by without selling it, the do so. Like chevy said, it's already paid for, and will save a fortune on gas.

Mother's not entirely rational fears

Many new mothers become concerned that daddy will have an accident that'll leave the child fatherless and insist that daddy give up riding entirely! Betcha there's plenty of riders on this list who gave up riding until the kids were grown and then and only then did SWMBO allow daddy to start riding again in middle or old age. Dunno why this is, it just shows me that some women are much more concerned about junior's meal ticket than they are for their husband's life.

Same thing with guys who have to give up riding when they get married. What's wrong with this, the wife who supposedly loves her husband insists that he give up a harmless activity that he loves? As soon as they get divorced (which they usually do) the ex-husband goes out and buys a bike! Hey youngsters! Before you get married discuss all of this with your fiancee and have it straight, if she's not cool with it, forget it, she's not for you! Find a woman that loves to ride, either pillion or solo.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out and defiantly shouting, "WOW, what a ride !" - Sprung

Truer words were never spoken. And not just about bikes, but about everything. Some women base how much you love them on how much you're willing to give up for them. That type of woman isn't worth the years of misery she will give you. I sure wish I had learned that about 7 years before the divorce.....

Perhaps you should marry a gal that has her own bike...that's what I did.

Tab1324,

They do have a point, I dont remember spending hardly anything
when we had our first, almost everything was given to us,
it was amazing!

I dont think we had to buy any baby clothes for the
first year or so (even though we did just because we wanted to)
but relatives and people at church just loaded us up with
everything from baby clothes to a cribe and you name it.
