A Few Parts For Sale

I have too many half-baked projects and need to get rid of some stuff so I can afford to actually finish one or two projects. These parts are all from a 1980 XS11 Standard. Prices negotiable within reason, especially if you buy multiple parts. I'll take pics on request.

Engine with 35k miles on it. Missing carbs and side cover. It ran when parked, but has sat for years. Available for pickup in Portsmouth, VA. $40.00

Rear wheel. Tire is bald, but wheel looks to be in good shape. $20.00 plus shipping

Drive Hub. Looks to be in good shape. $20.00 plus shipping

Swingarm. Looks to be in good shape. $20.00 plus shipping

Drive Shaft. Looks to be in good shape. $20.00 plus shipping

Oil Cooler. Looks to be in good shape. $20.00 plus shipping

Gas Tank. Some surface rust inside and out, particularly by the fill cap. I'm certain it will need to be boiled out and sealed, but it appears to be plenty solid enough to work with. The fill cap comes with correct key. $40.00 plus shipping.

Wiring Harness. The bike sat outside for some time before I acquired it, so the harness is not perfect. Some wire casings are dry and brittle and the fuse block is in very poor shape. I'm not even sure the harness is 100% complete, but it looks to be mostly there. $20 plus shipping

Rear Shocks. Have sat for quite some time and do have some pitting and rust in the chrome. $20 plus shipping

The carbs, exhaust, and whole front end are gone, and I'm keeping the frame, but I may have a few other small parts around, so let me know if you need something specific. Thanks.

On the oil cooler do you have the oil filter adapter too? I am interested.

How about controls. I've got a Right Hand set on order, but I'm still looking for a Left Hand set. Wouldn't happen to have one of those lying around ... would ya???

Sorry, I'm pretty sure they went with the front end, but I'll take a look in my magic parts cabinet.

I'm not sure what you're referring to...but the lines and everything are still attached to it, so if it's part of that whole assembly, it's there. The lines will need to be replaced though.

Hi Octane, the piece I'm rerferring to mounts to the bottom of the engine then the oil filter housing mounts to that. Probably about 1" thick & 5" round that has hose connections.

I think the tank is the same, but I'm not 100% sure. I bet somebody on the board here could tell us though! I'll take a few pics of the tank for you this evening and post tonight or tomorrow.

Out of curiousity...why is your tank not repairable? I got one of those stud welder dent pullers from Eastwood and it's done really well for me pulling all kinds of funny dents out. Might be something to look into!

Yup, pretty sure it's there, I'll double check tonight.

I got a few PM's about other engine parts too...I'd rather sell it whole, but it looks like there's more need/interest for parts. It may take me a few weeks to find the time to break it down, but if anyone is looking for more engine parts, let me know.

The two tanks are the same. Just bolt it on, and ride. (Well, don't forget the fuel lines)

oil cooler general question

How much does the oil cooler help these bikes? BTW: Does anyone have a picture of the oil cooler? I don't know what parts go with it...

In particular, if/when I use it to commute to work I'll have some amount of stop & go traffic to deal with. On a bad day there could be a LOT of stop & go. How much would an oil cooler work in these conditions? Is there an upper air temperature that you would not recommend riding in these conditions?

Oil Cooler

I run my cooler all year down here. Anything to help keep the temp down, especially when you're not moving, and the engine is heating up. Right now I don't have mine installed, but that's only because I needed to replace the hoses, and I'm too frugal (cheap)t pay for them when I can make them at work for free. The only catch is I haven't worked since June 5th.

Oil cooler diagram

Here is the microfiche diagram of the stock XS 11 oil cooler as installed on an '81 H model:



Note the shroud, item #27, came mostly in black but a few chrome units were imported. The US version of the H model had the oil cooler installed from the factory. In Europe most XS 11s had the cooler installed so is far more common to see the coolers on European bikes.

tank dent

Octane When i first got the bike it had air shocks that did not hold air it fell agianst the right side then me and girlfriend picked it up with out kick stand down it went right over to left side and landed on my tool bench right on the end of a 2x4 which is what the dent looks amazingly like right where the tank bends totally caved in thanks pete
