frustrated

heres my deal,i have a 1979 xs1100 i have owned it for 15 years and has never run right ,bad idle ,i have rebuilt the carbs so many times and nothing one carb is a recycld one ,took it to yamaha in houston they syncronized carbs ,and said thats the best they can do,whats up! dose anyone out there have one of these that idles good ?it also seems that its not that fast,i read in this form ,that i found this weekend,something aboutgas emmisions and some models have different carbs,i dont know,were do i start,i know after owning this thing for fifteen years ,why now,am i asking questions,its because now i might be able to get some anseweri know my spelling sucks,but i do my best,any help would be appriciated.
