    Determining value of an XS11 Special

    I could use a little help. I have a line on a 1980 XS11 Special with 14k miles on it. It seems to be running ok but is fairly weathered. The tank and side panels are quite faded and the emblems are peeling badly and inside the tank is rusty. It is also missing mirrors and the seat is ok. All the electrical seems to be working. Finally the pipes have been changed to a 4 into 1 but the chrome has turned to nearly black.

    The seller wants $600. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

      .. if it runs and rides good and shifts through the gears like it's suppose to and has a clear title in his name, $600. bucks is a righteous price.. you can have the exhaust sand blasted and paint them .. for about $300. bucks you can have your tank and side covers painted.. with a little elbow grease and some aluminum polish you will end up with a nice bike worth about $1500 bucks

        If it's mechanically sound... I'd go for it. Read the tech sections on "what to look for when buying a used XS(or something like that)

          At this price, you'll also be able to justify spending a few bucks on some specialty tools like mercury cavuum gauges, impact driver, nice set of 6 point sockets and combination wrenches. If you can do all the basic servicing yourself and can get up the courage to do your own carbs, brake systems, and tune-up, you'll probably be closer to $2000 by the time you're done.

                Clean it up and polish it some and it is worth 5 grand easy. I've been offered 5 grand for mine last summer. I just laughed. I wouldn't take 10 grand for it.
