Good afternoon, what are the thoughts on using the sump to lift the bike? Someone in the past has welded a homemade swinging arm brace to the bike, which means that the centre stand doesn't fit. I am limited on space and want to Jack the bike up and turn 180 degrees so it is pointing in the opposite direction. I will spread the load by using a large as possible wooden block. Cheers

I've put a small bottle jack under the sump to lift the front tire off the ground while it was on the center stand in order to change the front tire. In your case I'd be thinking about using some small wooden blocks under the frame rails then a longer one between those blocks to hold the weight.1980 XS1100G

Keep an eye on the frame if you do that!! I've had to weld up the side stand as it had cracked at the frame welds from stress. This was a few bike ago, and I don't know what had been done with it to cause the stress.
As far as the sump for jacking up the bike, no problems. I put a 18" 2X4 across the bottom of the bike and jack. Position it close to the oil filter if you want the front to come up, or as far back as possible to raise the back end.Last edited by DiverRay; Today, 10:12 AM.Ray Matteis
