Pilot Jets...The Teency-Weency Hole at the end. (ᗒᗣᗕ)

    #4 cylinder was not right. ( •_•)

I'd had my carbs in/out twice with the per usual "inspect-and-clean" without any change/improvement afterwards. (。-_-。 )

Even used THIS to look at the pilot jet pin-hole(s) at the end-

    But still no joy...... (ノ_<、)

(Dunno how many times I used the carb cleaner spray on them pesky Idle Jets and almost sent'em flyin' outta my fingers and cross the shop...)

    Wut finally worked? (O_o)

Bread ties (used to both poke out the three holes near the butterfly AND do the "bread tie" bench sync...) were too big. (*′☉.̫☉)

HOWEVER.... the bristles of a regular wire brush or a small SS wire brush wurky. (^_^)

I know.... TOTALLY against the rulez and "Inadvisable" cuz the wire might scar up the itty bitty hole. (>_<)

But I done it. Bike runs fine. Used it to get mOaR soft-serve Ice cream. (ʘ‿ʘ)

You know, I ran across a problem with a pilot jet one time. When looking at it up to the light, the nozzle hole appeared clear. Looking at it super close up, the nozzle was pitted, very hard to see but enough to disrupt the spray pattern and make the bike run like crap. So with that being said, sometimes even genuine Mikuni jets may need replacing.

I'm glad you got yours fixed Larry.

      Thx, bikerphil. (^◡^)

Thing is... I held the "janky/plugged" pilot jet up to the light just like I did wit' all the others. Two Times.... WITH my reading glasses on. ( •_•)

Looked just fine/open/clear so's after I spritzed it with the carb cleaner nozzle I just installed it and moved on. ¯\_(⊙_ʖ⊙)_/¯

But when the bike still ran like a XS 750 (one cylinder of an XS1100 gone....) I suspected there might be some other Gremilin at work. (「 ⊙Д⊙)「

To rule out anything else like electrical or what-not.... I swapped the carb bank with a set of known good runners. Problem went away. (_Oo)

      So I knew it was S O M E T H I N G in the carb bank and specifically #4. (⊙_☉)

It was only when I looked at the jet(s) with the Lighted headlamp Magnifier at 11.5 magnification that I saw...actually SAW the little hole in the end was blocked. ( •́ ⍨ •̀)

Tried A G A I N to clear it out with the carb spray but each time I looked at it thru the Magnifier it was still blocked with some sorta "amber" see-thru gel. (●__● )

Had to resort to the forbidden wire-poke that WildKat and XS11 both say to NOT do in their disassembly/cleaning "How To. " (ノдヽ)

      All better now tho... (^_^)

Larry, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to hit the end result. Nice repair. 👍

Yup. It do what nothing else do. (^_^)

I've had for quite some time now. Got it fOaR a non-XS related problem, solved it, and then put it away. (。・・。)

Kinda like how I bought a Mighty Vac years ago. Folks here say it wurky so well. I bought it, put it on the tools shelf, and then never even opened the box cuz I already have that "Topside" vacuum system imma so used- to using.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm thinkin' it might be useful for more XS related stuff-

            1. Pics of the front rotors to see iffin' they're both heating up the same like they should or mebbe one caliper is "dragging. (O_o)

            2. Pics of the axle(s) and/or wheel bearings. Not gonna show much on my bike cuz I've cleaned/repacked'em. But fOaR sure a dry bearing would get HOT, x-fer that heat to the axle, and it'd show up as a hot spot....

            3. Same for the final drive hub/gears/driveshaft tube- no lube and a long drive equals HEAT which would show up in a thermal pic....

            4. Those wires/connectors going to/from the Regulator. Mine are clean and electrically sound. But there's where the max alternator current flows and any "Iffy" connection would have resistance and therefore show up as a "Hotter-than-the-Others" spot.

I'll futz around with it over the next while and iffin' I do discover anything "useful/informative" you'll see mOaR. ┐(°‿°)┌

As cheap as the jets are it really is no brainer to just replace them. A few years ago I was working on a set and although I had purchased brand new jets one of them ended up bad.
