  • Partially Crushed Pipe

The PO of my xj11 obviously laid it down or ran over something like a high curb. The result is a partially compressed left outside header pipe (#4?) The actual compression is under the bike so it does not look bad or even show.

I am planning on pulling the exhaust system and painting it black this winter with high-heat paint as the chrome is discolored, scratched, rusty etc.

I will probably replace it next year or so when I want to spend the $$.

My question is this: Since it is not punctured and the bike seems to run well, is this an issue for performance or engine life?

    Jimbo,

Mine is the same way, on both sides. They almost look like they would be restricted, but good plug color and runs great.

    check out this thread.

      Re: Partially Crushed Pipe

The stock dual exhaust flattens where it goes 2-into-1. Of course both sides are the same which may balance exhause resistances. I have a bike that had a set of headers that had a smashed No. 4 pipe that ran fine for years...
