BHP and Torque at BACK WHEEL

    Hi everyone,
Official figures are for the crank. (95BHP and 90Nm) I've just had mine on a dyno to clear up a carburation worry. Dyno readings were 65BHP and 39Nm. I understand that different dynos can read a bit higher or lower, but can't help feeling a little disappointed. How much power can I expect to lose between crank and back wheel?
Bike seems to run fine, no engine noise, carb issue is minor. Has 4-1 exhaust and non standard air box.

What is everyone else getting for a fairly standard XS1100 Be honest!

Enough to move smartly down the road at a generous pace in 1978. As long as it idles and accelerates smoothly, your motor will give you many years and miles. Who knows when the last time that Dyno was calibrated. Run it and enjoy.

For a chain driven bike you could expect a 15% loss. For a shaft driven bike however it varied because of the differences in construction per manufacturer. ... between 20 - 35%. For new bikes that was. On our 2003 annual XS1100 meeting we used a rented well known dyno (Dynojet) which could be used by everyone interested in the outcome. Most of the owners were afraid of blowing up their engine so only 5 bikes were on the dyno. Highest HP figure was 65 (European) for a bike with a 1196cc Wiseco kit installed. And it only showed a 7% increase in torque compared with a standard bike. Forgot how much exactly. One Z1000 shaft drive also had between 35 and 40NM's.
Also don't rely on manufacturer's numbers in their specification. I remember when the XJR1200 came out it specifications gave only slightly better HP and NM numbers than the XS1100. In reality the XJR was significantly faster than the XS1100.
