I think he needs to be advertising it in the ART/Paintings section of Ebay. But it's only the top of the tank that's custom painted. Now, if he had the side covers, side of tank, all match painted in the same theme, then he might see the $10K he's asking, but again from an art collector more than a bike enthusiast!

The fact that it is the only woman silloette he ever painted makes it probably worth more than they appraised it at to the right Wyland enthusiest. I do think, however, that they could have done a little more to fully restore the bike and it would pull a lot more $. I doubt he'll get that for it. I think he would have done better in the art section.

I have an original, one of a kind Scott Taylor painting on my tank. Yeah it might look like some idiot just spilled gas all over a freshley painted tank causing everything to bubble up. But It was all planned.
$9K anyone? Its still a bargain at twice that price.

Bubble up? That's not painting that's sculpture! You're selling a Scott Taylor one of a kind sculpture for only $9k? You should ask 3 times that price. People have no respect if you sell too cheap.

Reminds me of the time I was trying to get rid of a Chevy Vega with a blown engine. I put it in the paper for $50. Didn't sell, not even one call. Raised it to $100 the next week. No calls. Raised it to $150 the next week. Still no calls. This went on for several weeks, $50 more each week. When it got up to $650 someone immediately called, rushed over, gave me $650 and towed it home. The guy seemed really happy to get the car too, had an aluminum Olds V8 engine to put in it.

I might. Is there a particular sculptor you have in mind?

I'd pay $10,000.00 for an XS. BUT it would have to be the very first one every made, In mint condition, With no miles, and stored for the long haul. Oh ya I almost forgot, Delivered to my front door by the owner of yamaha motors.

                            part it out

Thing is, most Wyland enthusiasts are tree-hugging eco-freaks who wouldn't ride a motorcycle and most folks wanting to get an XS1100 have never heard of Wyland.
Seems to me that the Wyland tank should be salvaged and sold off in the art section while the XS1100 with a plain stock tank on it would do well in the bike section.
I've never aproved of tarting up working machines with fancy artwork anyway. Artwork is simply too vulnerable for vehicles.

Careful now...some of us tree-huggers BOUGHT motorcycles to save gas and reduce the dependence on big oil.....

OK they are a blast too... but that is JUST a side benefit!
