Fantastic! I don't know why I never look at Ebay. NOS springs too... that is great. Does anyone know how much stiffer the heavy duty springs are? I am a heavy guy, probably best to go that direction.

Can't say that I know it for a fact but my best guess is if heavy duty springs where offered by Yamaha as an option they where probably meant for use on a bike with a fairing on it.

Good point, mine had all the bags and fairing on it when it rolled off the showroom. So, it may have the strong springs in it alread. No real way to know.
The heavy duty springs ARE for bikes with the "tour kit". I had them on my '78, as well as different rear shock/springs, because it was ordered with the tour kit. They were not that much more, but they do make a difference when you have weight on the bike. You can probably use them, but keep the pre-load on a low setting to begin with. If you have the air caps, keep the pressure low, about 15psi max, to start.

I use Sonic springs in both my 11's, they are straight wound and work very well with fork cartridge emulators. They don't list them for our bikes on their website anymore, but they may be able to make a pair by contacting the company. Then there is Race Tech suspension.

I usually use race tech, but no options show for our bikes....
Something can ALWAYS be made. It's just a matter of your pain point. I have two brand new sets of stainless steel head studs for the XS1100's. It only cost $2,300 for the two sets.........

All years of the Standard and Special use the same aftermarket fork spring, the only difference is the length of the spacer that sits on top of the spring. So for your Standard, yes all years are the same.
