    Just wondering

Have you guys that have rebuilt engines been balancing them?

Also the 78/79 cams in the 80 heads sounds good. Do you need to do anything to allow for the extra lift in the heads?

Thank you, I'll take my answer off the air

mro, blueprinting components on a streetbike is a waste of money. Wiseco forged pistons are quality from the box. 78 cams don't have extra lift, just some extra duration on inlet and outlet. 80 cams have MORE lift on the outlet. 80 cams are gruntier on low/mid revs running 78 carbs. The bigger 80 valves don't neccassarily mean 'more power' as the fuel mix will flow more gas in, but at a slower velocity than with 78 valves. Gets complex. Differences are relatively small between varying combinations. I've tried most of them. Cams are the only really noticible differences if everything else is stock.

What about the balancing the crank? With that new NOS your putting on? It might be nice? hehehe.
Quick question though. Do all big bore kits use forged pistons? Mine was done before I bought it, and don't see a need to take it apart to check. Hopefully not for a long time.

Glar, it's pretty doubtfull any outfit would have cast pistons in their performance big bore kits. By all means balance the crank and polish the rods while they do it. Bit of money tho Scrooge talking

Been meaning to ask about balancing, does it reduce that midrange buzz? Now the XS is smooth as silk compared to the Norton, but better is always better.

It seems like the later years XS1100's cranks are mostly all out of balance.
