    sitting issues

So I started my XS and have rode around my storage unit lot, but didn't take it on the road due to shoulder and foot issues. It ran fine, then I didn't ride it and it got very humid outside. Went to start it 2 weeks ago and lightly tapped the float bowls with a screwdriver handle. Fuel came out #3 carb and tried tapping on the float bowl but no dice. I took the carbs off and gave them a good cleaning and put fresh gas in the tank. I will look at the spark plugs today as I suspect they are a bit fouled. No leaks so I guess that is a good sign. I will ride the bike to work this week. These bikes don't like to sit.

Took #1 spark plug out and cleaned it-was carbon fouled. I reinstalled it and took it for a nice ride. I will ride it to work this week.

      100%

The best bit of maintenance you can do on these old carbureted bikes is to ride them regularly.

Yes. Ride them to operating temperature. Not just idle in a driveway. That will kill the battery and add water to the crankcase. If they are going to sit for a long time I always run the carbs dry after a ride and then drain the fuel bowls.

So I went to ride to work, and realized I did not get it registered this year so will do so this upcoming week. I can do it online and get a temporary registration until it comes in the mail.
