Howdy - the bikle seems to slip when accelerating in 1st. Seems to be worse the colder. Any advice on what's wrong and how to fix it. Anyone know a good mechnic in or around reno?
thanks
Sounds like your clutch. Did this just start happening? Go through the clutch adjustment procedure and see if it helps. This is outlined in every manual. You do have a manual, don't you? If not, get one, you need it.
Then,
Are you using the right oil ... or should I say, the wrong oil? (there's lots of "right" oils.
Look at the ANPI symbol on your oil bottle (the round circle). You want the bottom half to be blank. If it's not, it has friction modifiers that can make the clutch slip easily.

Well, contrary to popular posts here, it's fairly rare for the clutch to slip in the lower gears, not much stress, vs. the higher gears where there's more resistance between the engine and the rear wheel. So....when you say slip, do you really mean it sorta "SKIPS", like popping out and back into gear/engagement? If so..then it's the dreaded worn dogs and slots on the gears of 1st/4th, also happens to 2nd/5th combos, and if you'll follow this link, you'll find lots of techtips about it! Tranny Tech Tips
