  • Stuck Idle/Mixture Valve Fix

    Hey yall,

Doing a quick spring carb rebuild and I noticed the tip of my idle screw was snapped off! It's only my second time pulling them apart and I've yet to sync so it's likely been there all winter.

Tried picking at it a couple different ways, bent the tip and wound up just filing it flush. Wandered around my shop at work over coffee this morning and whipped this up.

Its just a little clamp, with a hole drilled and tapped, then I threaded the bolt in, ground it to a point and voila! Worked so well I could hardly believe it.

Just wanted to share because I spent 10 times as long making the tool as I did using it, figured it might help someone if they were in the same spot.

I assume you pushed the tip backwards out through the threads, so it didn't make the hole larger?

    Genius.

I heard so many people with this problem, and frequently, the result is a scrapped carb body.

The tip goes inside the throat then the toe goes right over where the it screws in. Everything is square so the pressure gets applied in the right direction, didn't even need to heat it.

I can't claim all the cred, I saw someone using blue tack on channel locks in another post somewhere I can't find right now.
