  • 'need new brake hoses for an '82 XJ

I'd LIKE to replace the original brake hoses (read: 23-years-old) with stainless-braided brake hoses.
I'd seen references to the stainless ones on various threads and e-mailed Randy Rago about them. He said that he doesn't do them anymore.
Yamaha has, of course, discontinued their OEM versions. Hmmph!

These are the OEM part numbers:

    Front Master Cylinder Fiche:
    10 10M-25872-11-00 HOSE, BRAKE 1
    (10M-25872-11-00 has superceded 10M-25872-10-00)

    11 10M-25872-50-00 HOSE, BRAKE 1

    20 4W1-25873-00-00 HOSE, BRAKE 2

    22 4W1-25873-50-00 HOSE, BRAKE 2

    Rear Brake & Pedal Fiche:
    31 4W1-25874-50-00 HOSE, BRAKE 1

Now what? Any ideas, guys and gals?
    Thanks,

    not cheap

almost any bike shop can get you stainless lines. just need lengths and bajo sizes and angles of the banjo ends, but not cheap mind you i just priced one for the back brake on my xj sat. 112 dollars no bolts or washeres either. but they are out there. try dennis kirk also they sell the ends and lengths etc. etc. Another thought near me is an industrial hose manufacture, they also make stainless ,some other thing to look into.

$115.22 for 5, new XJ brake hoses ...

... including the copper crush washers and the spring clip ("HOLDER, BRAKE HOSE 2", #25 on the XJ11 Front Master Cylinder fiche)!

-I took my old originals to them and they had them finished within a day. (They usually do them "While you wait", but I told them I'd pick them up in a week in order to give them time.)

-They look exactly like the originals - which is what I wanted.

-My XJ is coming together with new seals, gaskets, & rubber. I'm getting happier all the time!

      Happy New Year, everyone!

You can make stainless steel brake lines using the components sold by Russell (now part of Edlebrock). They make various lengths of stainless hose with ends that accept their screw in banjos. I used this on my 550 Maxim and plan to use them on my 1100 whenever I can get it to a place that I can work on it. The hoses are clear plastic covered, so they will hold up better.
