1979 XS1100 Special Repair

I am trying to repair a 79 XS1100 Special. The wires in the fuse box were completely hanging out and I hooked them up correctly (i thought) based on the schematic from the manual, but i can't be sure. I tried to start it, but the starter moves and nothing. It won't start... I pulled out a spark plug and reconnected it to the wire, it did not spark. I assume that I can't start it because teh wires are not done correctly in the fusebox... So... anyone have any ideas where I can find pictures of the wires and how they should be laid out? I wasn't sure what to look up to find it. thanks

I checked the fuse box photos and while they are very clear, I dont get to see BOTH sides of the wires... For instance in the first photo I can see one side of the connection, but I can't see what color the wires are connected to on the bottom... When I hooked it up, (it looked correct) I connected two brown wires to two red wires... There are a mess of wires coming into the housing and I put a fuse between a brown wire to a red wire... I did this twice. Should it have been red to red and brown to brown? I checked the repair manual I had and it looked correct for the 70 Special... so what color are the wires on BOTH sides of the fuse?? thanks in advance.

Wow, Eric you're right, sorry about that. I will be home tonight and I can take another photo and e-mail it to you. Or, I'll just post it here.

How do you post photos? I would love to show you the rewire and ask your opinion, but I dont know how to attach a photo. Thanks

If you do a search, ther is a thread that will tell you how to post. I think you need to post a link to a server that your photo is on. As I have not tried it yet, I'm not positive.

photo & fusebox match

I took a photo of my fuses and the schematic I got matched... so I think it is something else... what would be next? Bypass the kill switch? What about checking the ignition box? Anything beside these two problems I should look for immediately? Those are the ones I plan to do first... thanks

look at the wires inside the left motor cover (sitting on bike ) if the po had that mess he was probly trying to fix the trigger wires (not sure of there name) they move with the timing plate and break after awhile there are many threads here for the fix. Some one help with the name dang they say memorie goes first ooohhh what are those wires for ??????

OK, Eric. Now that you have the wires hooked up correctly (?) , go back to my website.

Under the heading "TCI REPAIRS" there's a short Mpeg on how to test the ignition TCI. You can do it with a regular voltmeter and you don't have to take any thing apart to do the test. (except the seat).

This test will tell you whether you problem lies before the TCI (pickups), IN the TCI, or after the TCI (coils)
