  • Switching from standard to Special handlebars.

I want to change my '78 from standard to Special type handlebars. Can you tell me what cables will likely need changed out, and any other mechanical stuff I may not have considered?

The easy way would be to get the controls from a 1979 Special and use them. The right side is different in that the brake MC is designed to be at an angle, and the wires are longer to reach with the longer bars. The throttle and clutch cables would also need to be for a special, same reason. You will also need the longer brake hose for the special.
You CAN put most of this together with what you have as far as wires, just add about 6" to all the control wires, and then buy the longer cables and brake hose to fit the bars. You will just need to be careful when bleeding/filling the front brakes.
