I saw this message from Baloo in France, he is a member of the French XS1100 club and the owner of Baloo racing who built and prepared both yellow and black #94 endurance racers based on the XS and the FJ for the Classic european endurance championship.
He wrote that one of the very rare Moto Martin XS1100 in France is now on the market. Sadly because of the owner who also was a member passed away.
This bike was built by the French engineer George Martin who started building frame kits (and some complete bikes in1972). He built them for every popular bike. Those kits were for sale in the eighties for around 4000 euro's. For that money you got the frame, the suspension, brakes and the wheels. You could expand as far as you wanted. As long as you paid hahaha.
What was remarkable was that the company even produced mag wheels, brakes, rears sets, front forks and bodywork themselves
Later he built kit cars as well but when he retired he stopped for a number of years just doing a couple of frame once in a while as a hobby.
And then he started again because aftermarket frames were getting more popular in a hurry. And he is still building them. In total 5800 frame kits have been built and sold.
The Moto Martin XS1100 is a very rare find (I personally know of only four: one in France, one in Switserland, one in Germany and one in the UK. The frame is from thin walled chromemoly tubing, not welded but brazed and finished in nickel (no chrome). All bikes could be fitted as either a single seater or dual seater. The XS1100 comes with a chain drive, not surprisingly. One of the very first sets available, so no outrigger bearing for the front sprockets. These XS frames come with lower frame member which you will hardly find on other models. That is because the XS engine has two sets of front engine mounts and one set on the rear. A lot of the other models have the opposite:1 set on the front and two sets on the rear. They can do without the lower frame members. Here are some pictures from the bike when we visited the 2007 International XS1100 meeting in France. The first pic came with the message..
