Never tried it, but it's the first time I've seen 20-40W that is recommended by Yamaha.-Mike

Been using Castrol products for over 50 years and they've never failed me. Currently using Castrol Go! (used to be GTX) 10W-40. Using that instead of 20W-50 seems to help with the cold clutch engagement WHACK. Not cheap ($11-14 / litre) but neither is a premature tear-down. 96K km and going strong.1980 XS1100G (one owner-me)

For highway marathons it was always 20w-50. Cooler average temps and mostly local rides called for 10w-40. Riding season is pretty much over now up here in the Great White North but we've got a few above-freezing days ahead - will be 8C (46F) today - contemplating popping the battery back in for a ride. We got some snow in late October but it's mostly melted now and roads are dry. 10w-40 should help a frozen 11 start a little easier. Once warmed up she runs great in the cooler weather!1980 XS1100G (one owner-me)

Didn't mean to start an oil thread. I honestly just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this oil. The seller that is listed in my link above sells on Ebay and there were several reviews and they were all positive. Mostly from vintage bike riders. Cost of course is an issue but I may take advantage of the free shipping on the site I provided the link to. I have read too much info on oil. Automotive versus motorcycle oil etc. I believe the key to be the frequency at which the oil is changed to prevent most of the problems with using automotive oil. Seems sludge formation is more prevalent when not using oil specifically formulated for motorcycles. $50.00 dollars for about 4.3 quarts of oil is on the high side.2 - 80 LGs bought one new

You'd be surprised how much crud drains out of the crankcase if you add some SeaFoam to the oil and run it (At low RPM) for a few miles before draining it, looks like Beef Stew gravy! I've done this before draining the oil on my last three bikes just after buying them.1980 XS1100G
