2H9 is the non USA model. In Europe the '78 came in Macho Maroon red and a silver colored one , I forgot the name of that color. The '79 came in unchanged colors plus a gold with black color.

If I remember correctly there were none. I even think the '78 and '79 red and silver ones had the same part number fiche from Yamaha. If my memory is not faling after all these years

Only difference I remember between the 78E and 79F was that the carbs were re-jetted to meet the stricter emission requirements that were put in placed in 1979. Starter and Pilot jets were smaller and needles taper was also changed. Don’t know if any internal gearing or camshaft lobe heights differences.

Carb innards in the US almost stayed the same for the Standards from '78 and '79. When you compare their part lists on CMSNL.com you can see that both had 137.5 main jets and the same needles, although the 130 main jets were available in 1979 (probably for specific States). Pilot jets were different between '78 and '79. For the Special I don't know, just check the part lists. The Euro Standard models stayed the same between 78 and 79 as far as I know. For the Standard the engine innards (except kick starter in 1980) stayed the same from 1978 until the 1981 model that came with different pistons, valves, camshafts and ignition (all for emission reasons).
