  • front brakes-bad hose?

On my xj, I replaced a bad hose with one off a I think it was an xj650, anyway it was about 2 inches longer than the orig. and now when brakeing it doesnt brake hard, and loses pressure-the lever will squeeze all the way in after about 30 sec.

Is this because the hose is longer, because I dont see any leaks anywhere, and I have bled the system several times.
I also believe I took the master off and tilted it to the side to get any air bubbles out of the first curv of the brake hose-where air like to hide (I think)
I may have to take the master off and do this again since I'm not 100% sure if I did this or not since I heard of this hiding air bubble.

    any thoughts anyone?

Hose is probably soft from age. Try working the lever while squeezing the hose with your other hand. The real bad ones, you can feel them swell as you press the lever.

Worst case you'll see the hose swell.
Medium worst case, you see it flex and move a little.
Least worst... still have air in the lines.
Remove the cap on the master, and siphon off some of the brake fluid.(but don't let the holes go dry!!!) By swinging the handlebars left and right, you'll cause each end of the master to dip or rise. Squeeze the brake lever at the apogee of each swing, you may see bubbles coming up through the release holes if you have any trapped at the fitting, provided that you can get the master higher than the fitting.
Does this make sense? (Apogee? I meant to write Apex. Hard to type clearly when a vomitting dog wakes you at 4:00am)
Hey, here's an idea. I'll come down there and fix your brakes... you come up here and wash my "spiderman" sheets and pillowcases!

        Thanks for the replys guys,

I'll try those suggestions, the hose is old so that may be it, but I'll see if I can get any more air bubbles to reveal themselves.

        Thanks and ride safe.
