  • Standard tank color for ‘79?

Hi everyone. Has anyone ever seen this color combo on a 79 XS1100? Probably going to buy this for my next project but I’ve never seen this on any pics of an 11. Thanks! Click image for larger version

Nope, haven't seen that color combo on a 79. I'd be checking the vin numbers on the frame and the engine to see if they match. There's not a lot about that bike that looks like a 79,

That was never a stock color.

That bike seems to be a 1980 Special.

This should help solve the riddle.

                  Hmmmm.......

Never occurred to me that other countries might have color schemes different than the US.

Could this be the one? (from the link provided by LAB3):

That's what I was wondering, an import color scheme. I've seen that same two tone paint in his picture in different places on the internet and the color combo for my bike isn't listed either so... Eh?

My bike is a 3H5 which should be a 1980 G, according to the color chart on that list it should be either silver or ruby red but in reality it's a two tone dark fuschia and a reddish hue black. I've only seen my particular color combo on the models with the tour pack which didn't get it's own model designation until 81, the venturer.

Obviously the list I linked isn't complete as to all the colors and combo's available but from what I've deduced a two tone scheme seems to be limited to bikes that had the touring setup off the showroom floor whether they where called a venturer or not. I'm sure others will chime in on that one (see the second quote in my signature)
